Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act (Bill 1)

Wednesday, June 17, 2020 by Randolf Richardson 張文道

On June 15, 2020 a friend in Ontario informed me that the Province of Alberta has been in the process of enacting legislation that imposes on our Constitutionally-protected rights and freedoms.  I signed a petition to support the preservation of our rights and freedoms, and I added the following comment:

Wednesday, June 17th, 2020

Alberta's "Bill 1: Critical Infrastructure Defence Act" is a threat to our Canadian freedoms that are protected under our national Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which ensures that we're all "equal under the law." It is my contention that this Bill is illegal and must not receive Royal Assent because it oppresses all Canadians by limiting the rights of everyone while in the Province of Alberta.

I am staunchly opposed to this proposed legislation, which is mostly redundant and adds a few seemingly-minor exemptions that set a dangerous potential to facilitate a draconian Police State.

All Canadians are guaranteed the "right to peaceful assembly" and we must not permit any Government - Provincial or otherwise - to take away our rights -- thank you to everyone for signing this petition, and please call your Member of Parliament wherever you are in Canada to insist that they intervene to protect our rights by blocking Royal Assent on Alberta's Bill 1.

Sincerely,
